We acquired this woodland retreat with the intention of crafting a sanctuary in nature, an oasis proximate to our urban dwelling.

 The moniker 'Koukoubayia' draws inspiration from the Greek word 'κουκουβάγια,' signifying owl.

Our father (Papie +) held profound significance in our lives and those of many others. Endowed with a generous heart, a gentle gaze, and consoling words, he left an indelible impact. To maintain his proximity following his abrupt departure, I commenced painting owls. Having amassed an assortment of owls from diverse corners of the globe, and embodying the spirit of a devoted boyscout, he was an integral member of the 'Bosuilen' (Forest Owls) scout group. 

The owl, with its symbolic representation of wisdom, intuition, introspection, transformation, attentive listening, mysticism, balance, and protection, resonates deeply. 

Papie imparted invaluable lessons. His unparalleled ability to marvel at life's minutiae, coupled with his infectious kindness and spontaneity, left an enduring impression. 

Annually, he orchestrated a 'nature camp' for his children, grandchildren, friends, nephews, and nieces—the 'Dommelridders' (Dommel Knights). Meticulously selecting enchanting locales in Limburg along the Dommel river through his extensive network, he transformed them into enchanting, magical campsites. The children absorbed lessons about life's nuances—singing, dancing, poetry, art, teamwork, nature appreciation, woodworking, hut construction, games, history, conflict resolution, and mutual care. 

We recollect these moments in nature as if they occurred yesterday—the fragrant air, the elation, the enchanting campfires, the camaraderie. These experiences bestowed upon us enduring values and principles that illuminate our life's journey. 

This charming holiday cottage is nestled in a tranquil, wooded setting in Langdorp, Flemish Brabant.

Surrounded by 0.5 hectares of lush gardens and forests, the property is fully fenced, ensuring a secure environment for your furry friends to roam freely.
